Imagine, if you will…
By courtney | June 24, 2010
…that you spent a lot of last Saturday in the car. Needless to say… you are grumpy. Tired. Ready to go to SLEEP.
Now picture climbing into bed at 11pm. But then — wait! What is that? The building behind your apartment is being loud again! Hmm. No, it’s not them. Is it the bar a block away? Nope, not them either. Darn it, there is probably one of those stupid party busses driving down the road. You hate Portland sometimes, you really do.
You are almost ready to call the non-emergency police dispatch for noise disturbance — that’s how loud this is. You creep to the window and peek out of the curtains. Who exactly would you be reporting if you called? Wait… is that… no. No way. This isn’t possible.
You call your spouse over, who also takes a look. You evaluate the situation. Together, you conclude that it’s really happening: hundreds of naked bicyclists are whooping their way down the street, a half block from your bedroom window.
Luckily, they are too far away to really put you in danger of being blinded by horrible sights. You can’t stop laughing. You admire the fashion sense of the gentleman wearing fairy wings, then the insanity of the two riding unicycles. (Really? Seriously? Naked unicycling sounds a bit, erm, dangerous…) You and your spouse get out your handy smart phones and start searching around to find out what exactly is happening. After some investigative work, you discover that tonight is the World Naked Bike Ride. You, my friend, have been blessed to be included on the bike route this year. 5000 naked people cycling by your apartment.
What a crazy city. You love Portland sometimes, you really do.
