About Us
Keith
Keith was born in Tucson, Arizona (which explains his insane tolerance for heat), and subsequently gained a younger brother and a younger sister. They got along perfectly all of the time, obviously. The Grants moved to Spokane sometime in there, where Keith lived until he proposed to that girl. He attended Gonzaga University (go Bulldogs!) and studied World Domination via Computers. He now works as a web programmer for a payroll company that’s growing so fast it makes his head spin. He loves to cook (specializing in Mexican food), stays on the cutting edge of graphic design, occassionally does freelance web design, and continually tries to convince Courtney that Orson Scott Card is one of the best living authors.
Courtney
Courtney was born in Redmond, Washington, and subsequently gained a younger brother. She categorically denies ever being a bossy sister. The Varneys moved to Anacortes sometime in there, where she worked as a salty sailor during high school. She attended Whitworth College (go Pirates!), where she Read Books and Got a Degree for It, and the University of Washington (go Huskies!), where she studied World Domination via Informational Control. She loves her job as a teen librarian, even on days when working with teens feels like herding cats. She loves to cook (specializing in Asian food), reads teen literature voraciously, and continually tries to convince Keith that British sitcoms are very funny.
How They Met
Keith and Courtney met in Spokane, WA, while Keith was at Gonzaga and Courtney was at Whitworth. Time frame? Location? Who the heck knows? They remember being introduced at different times. Keith pursued Courtney for… oh, practically forever. Courtney, being the brilliant and idiotic woman she often is, kept saying, “Can’t we just be friends?” (Note from Courtney: Well, we were great friends! What’s wrong with that?) This cycle continued for a couple years until Courtney moved back to Seattle to attend graduate school. Except that after Courtney had been MLIS-ing it for a year, she realized that she really didn’t want to be just friends anymore; Keith, of course, knew this was inevitable all along. (Smart dude.)
They dated across Washington State for a year, and they have accepted that they will likely die of brain tumors that will result from the thousands of minutes they spent on their cell phones each month. Keith proposed on a bluff overlooking the Puget Sound in Anacortes, WA. Because it would clearly be more stressful and therefore more exciting that way, Keith and Courtney both immediately moved to Portland and planned the wedding long-distance while Courtney job-hunted and Keith apartment-hunted (being already employed). They married 7 months later in a private family ceremony. Since then, they spend most of their time obssessing over wine, food, strategy board games, graphic design, and books.
